Mixed Martial Arts for Fitness Rundown

It is a combination of kicks, punches, ground and pound and basic martial arts strength and cardio drills. This course is not for the faint-hearted.

Introduction -10 Minutes
The history of Mixed Martial Arts and its potential benefits for fitness with clients making sure of suitability to all body types and fitness levels.
 
Warm Ups - 20 Minutes
A range of fun, creative and sport specific ways to warm up group and personal training clients participating in MMA including, Ju Jitsu transitions, battles for under hooks and basic striking fundamentals for both punching and kicking.
 
Pad holding  and stance fundamentals- 20 Minutes
Correct way to hold pads, recommended stance techniques, potential exercise selections and integration into group and personal training.
 
Punch and Kick Technique - 45 Minutes
Working technique for a range of punches including hooks, jabs, uppercuts, rips and the cross (how to punch safely). This will also involve correct footwork to assist in punch power. There will also be a component of round and front kick technique for the safest way to throw kicks and still expel maximum power.
 
Break - 15 Minutes
Lunch provided
 
Combinations - 45 Minutes
Working through a range of 30 + boxing, kicking and clinch combinations and workout techniques. This component of the course will also involve Ju Jitsu training that is functional and relative to MMA fitness movements.  Ground and pound will also be a key fitness concept outlined in this section.
 
Cool Downs - 20 Minutes
A range of fun, sport specific ways to cool down group and personal training clients.
 
Boxing Practical - 1 Hour
Group MMA session outlining all the fundamental skills learned. This part of the course will give an in-depth look at how to structure a beginner group MMA session using components of a group session including, demo (including technique points), warm ups, workouts (combinations) and cool downs (stretching).
 
In this section, the participant will structure and facilitate a 15 minute MMA session for a random group member to participate in. This will be assessed by the presenter via the assessment checklist.
